About Us

Here’s four quick reasons why we’re different:

We all come from business backgrounds

We’ve all either run our own small businesses now or in the past, have rental properties or have grown up around the dinner table with parents who are self-employed. This means we know the pressures you face – staff, cashflow, pricing, all while keeping an eye on the next opportunity around the corner.

Not just accounting and tax

We know that you get more from your accountant when you’re talking about more than accounting and tax. We’ve got an in-depth understanding of your financial situation – it’s our responsibility to use that to help you build both your business and wealth.

We’re technology driven:

As gen-Yers, we know the technology landscape and how you can use it to streamline your business – giving you more time in your day, more control of the moving parts in your business, and profit on the bottom line.

We’ve started from scratch

iif was founded as a start up literally from the boot of the car. The journey has taken us through hiring, firing, taking premises, doing things wrong, improving performance, cashflow crunches, and failed experiments. We know what you’re going through.

Hamish Mexted – Director

All of my family are self-employed. I grew up around the dinner watching them talk about cashflow, staffing, sales and profitability. I founded iif in 2011 to help people like my family, and to at the same time challenge the stereotype of the dull, cardigan-wearing accountant.read more

Here’s the thing. For many people, including my family at times, accounting is a retrospective join-the-dots exercise. It shouldn’t be though. Those dots should be used to make future decisions, based on real-time information. This is what helps build the value of a business, and build family wealth outside the business.

When I’m not at work, I’ll be spending time with my family (twin boys and a girl) or trying to find time for the hobbies I never quite seem to get around to. Mountain biking, windsurfing, diving and boxing are all on the list of things I don’t quite get to…

Riann Umaga-Marshall – Manager

I joined iif back in early 2015 when operating out of an office on the Terrace. After time away from public practice I was ready to jump into a progressive company unafraid of change and prepared to move in the new and evolving accounting space.read more

It was refreshing to join a small team with a young and energetic director with a focus on business development for our clients and for us. After gaining years of great experience in a mid tier Wellington based accounting firm, running my own small business and also at Spark for the Corporate Finance team, I am ready to keep moving and growing with iif and our forward thinking clients.

I graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and Commercial Law. Accounting seemed like an area that I could sink my teeth into and get a good grounding for business. Over time I realised I was more people focused then entirely technical. I love meeting new people and hearing about their goals and ambitions for their businesses. My focus with iif is maintaining relationships and really getting to know what issues our clients are facing and how we can guide them through them.

When I’m not working, you can find me hanging at the beach, sports field or gym with my husband and 3 gorgeous children.

Feel free to contact me on 04 212 4977 or riann@iif.co.nz if there’s anything you’d like to discuss.

Keitha McClure – Manager

Few people can say that they genuinely love their job, but I can.

I really enjoy working with our varied and growing client base. I particularly like working with startup businesses. Assisting them to grow and be successful is extremely satisfying.read more

I graduated from Victoria University and after six years of working in large accounting firms I decided it just wasn’t for me. I was lucky to be offered a position at iif and I haven’t looked back.

iif challenges the general accountant stigma and makes me proud to be CA.
When I’m not working you can find me (along with my better half) trying to keep the nine-month-old and the pre-teen out of trouble.

Eugenie Jones – Accountant

iif’s tight-knit family environment is what drew Eugenie in to working with us.read more

After coming on board a few years ago she now knows all the ins and outs of how we work. She helps a range of clients simplify their accounting and is out Xero wizz.

Outside of work, Eugenie runs on eating out at local cafes and being at the gym – but you’ll never find her actually running!

If you’ve got any questions feel free to drop her an email (eugenie@iif.co.nz) or call 04 212 4977.

Charlotte White – Accountant

Charlotte joined the team in 2017, with previous experience in a large accounting firm. She was looking for an enviroment where she could work directly with smaller clients to improve their businesses and structure their tax. read more

She enjoys helping clients achieve their goals just as much as her own – being a former international gymnast she sets her goals pretty high!

Outside of work she enjoys being outdoors: doing hikes, mountain biking or swimming. Charlotte enjoys spending time and having laughs with friends and family (this includes Indie the dog of course!).

To get in touch call Charlotte in the office on 04 212 4977 or charlotte@iif.co.nz

Alex Silverwood – Accountant

Blah. I joined iif because I wanted to be part of a small team, with innovative thinking, working with innovative customers. The technology aspect was always going to be an important part of my decision. iif is a forward-thinking Accounting firm and it’s great to be in a place that can provide great advice to clients.read more

I graduated Victoria University with a degree in Human Resources and Management. I have also since completed a post-graduate diploma specialising in Accounting. I have recently started the Charted Accounting programme and with things going to plan will become a Charted Accountant in 2019.

In my spare time I love playing football, going to the beach, and exercising regularly. One of my biggest passions is to travel and getting immersed in other cultures.

To get in touch with me, email alex@iif.co.nz or call 04 212 4977.

Tamsyn Murray – Practice Manager

Tamsyn came to iif to work in a small business with strong culture. She (truth be told) basically runs the ship, making sure deadlines are met, customers are exceedingly happy and Hamish is kept in order.read more

Since joining in mid-2017, her attention to detail and account management skills have helped everyone in the office lift their game. She has the right fit for our team and is frankly invaluable.

Outside of work she enjoys getting outside, practicing yoga, spending time with her family and is an avid reader with the occasional Netflix binging session.

If there’s anything you’d like to discuss, feel free to call Tamsyn on 04 212 4977 or email tamsyn@iif.co.nz.
