Welcome to the second edition of Meet the Team. This month it’s Claudia Wicki (she lost a game of paper-scissors-rock so it’s her turn)…
I’m originally from Switzerland which (hopefully you know) is located right in the middle of Europe. My partner and I got the opportunity to relocate to New Zealand and jumped on it. It’s a great opportunity to look at how the world is on the southern hemisphere. Coming from Switzerland, it’s not often you get the change to live so close to the sea!
After a few weeks of doing nothing (except of attending job interviews) I got a job offer from the Wellington International Airport and my working career has started in Wellington. After three month I said farewell to the Airport and moved back to my roots at a small Chartered Accounting company.
In my rare spare time (due to the hard work at iif) I love travelling, reading books and travel magazines. I like exploring other countries and cultures. I got the chance to do a trip through the South and North Island of New Zealand. We enjoyed exploring the beauty of the nature and also the mountains and beaches. I can recommend doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and admire the volcanic peaks of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe.
Why did you become an Accountant?
I’ve started my working career as an apprentice in a local District Court. During my apprenticeship I got the chance to work in the account department and that was probably when I felt in love with accounting. After a gap year in Australia I started working in a small Chartered Accountant Company in Switzerland. As an additional challenge I completed my Swiss CA qualification.
What is the best thing about working at iif?
It is an excellent working atmosphere for us employees and that helps to provide our clients with the best service. In addition we have a dynamic, enthusiastic and non-cardigan-wearing boss who supports us in any possible business way (From Hamish: Claudia wrote that without any prompting!!).
What’s your favourite part of the job?
I can’t say that I just love a specific part of my job. I think it is the entire package of the accounting job that I like. Every day is different and that’s probably the most interesting part. Every client has a different story and different worries about his business. We’re happy to support them in every possible way.
