I’m about half way through reading this book by Tim Harford:
It’s certainly not a heavy read, nor does it go into any overly deep topics. That said, it’s a good summer read…as far as business books go.
The main theme of the book is that organisations need to embrace risk, change, failure and experimentation to make significant progress in their chosen field. Without doing so the organisation will be resigned to small, periodic improvements which will never yield anything of great consequence.
According to Harford, it’s essential that your organisation tolerates new projects and ideas, as well as the risk of failing. The book definitely fits well with what we’re doing at iif Chartered Accountants. How does it fit with your business? Once new ideas come to the surface, what are you doing to harness their potential? If you’re not doing anything, perhaps you could start by reading the book.
